I think I want to read the Mahabharata, any recommendations for good abridged versions? (I do not know Sanskrit)

@hidden Suspiciously good, I think it's probably taking liberties from the original language, but I also don't think that's always a bad thing in recounting a story like this.

@J I explained the story of the Bhagavad Gita to a friend and realise that if I’m not specifically looking for wisdom it’s actually cool as hell so now I want to read the rest

@hidden I don't think it's easy to understand the "wisdom" because the idea of what samsara is is pretty unstable during this period. Buddhists were starting to say nirvana and samsara were the same thing, and the only difference is your state of gnosis.

Idk if that leaks into the Hindu tradition, it's too much to research all the schools for me, but it probably does bc they're pretty fluid in this period. I'm keeping that diversity in mind when I get to the Gita.
