@lain stop reading that trash lain, you clog up your thonkeries....

@kaia I’ll concentrate on more important things

@lain Can I vote mayonnaise for presmedent?

@realman543 yes you can write it in

@lain edit the wapo "democracy dies in darkness" banner onto this

@kaia @lain less indoctrinated yournalists and more unhinged weeaboos alright?

"Yeah, Kamala didn't need any votes!"

@lain @kaia getting proper shoes instead of (((crocs)))?

@kaia bitte was

@kaia @lain ‘Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…’

i really like this Churchill quote.

@grillchen @kaia dumb quote and dumb take

@lain looks like the thesis of the article is basically just “the people who seek power are usually exactly the kind of people who should never have power”, but the headline and the conclusion (that we should use a lottery system instead) were both unfortunate

@a as soon as “we should” enters, everyone should leave

@lain If you define democracy as more than just voting (which is often done) this might actually be true. People go on and on about how supposedly people are voting based on misinfo and fake news, and I think if that's true maybe we shouldn't have voting at all.
I'd much rather sacrifice voting for free speech and rule of law than the other way around.

@Hyolobrika indeed, if you define democracy in a way that 99% of people wouldn’t, it might be true.

@lain i do idly wonder if referendums would work better than representatives. they seem to work in other countries

@a how about not having elections or referendums

@lain I thought loads of people define democracy broadly as anything that gives power to the people or limits the power of government, not *just* voting

@Hyolobrika okay, but what gives power to the people? When I lived in a democracy and voted, no candidate I voted for ever got elected. When I moved to a monarchy, I got most of what I wanted.

@lain Yeah, clickbait

@lain @Hyolobrika >When I moved to a monarchy
What monarchy was that? Was that Japan with their highly compromise-driven democratic system?

@naruciakk @lain He's probably referring to when he moved to Suadi Arabia?

@Hyolobrika @naruciakk lol I live in the uae not Saudi

@lain I think you're misunderstanding my point

@Hyolobrika I might be, what’s the point

@lain @naruciakk @Hyolobrika Saudi is NNN all year round (capital punishment)

@nerthos @naruciakk @Hyolobrika there’s capital punishment in the land of the free

@lain @naruciakk @Hyolobrika I think it's pretty based honestly. Killing journos and bonking the horny? sign me up.

@nerthos @naruciakk @Hyolobrika meh, the journalist they killed was a historical rival family, journalism didn’t really play into it

@lain @naruciakk @Hyolobrika Disappointing. I expected better of them.

@lain @Hyolobrika >no alcohol
I mean, I'm a teetotaller, but that sounds pretty bad. And the other stuff probably too

@naruciakk @Hyolobrika fake news (sheikh slashed alcohol taxes to zero last year)

@lain@lain.com Yes, this man should be the earth's emperor
