Whether people like it or not, the fact that you're "allowed" to have one opinion and you'll be rewarded, and you're "not allowed" to have other opinions and your career and life will be destroyed means you're definitionally not doing science.
In proper science, the final arbiter of truth is reality. If you're acting as if the final arbiter is the state, you're doing propaganda, and if the final arbiter is some group of moral busibodies then you're doing theology.
Don't get me wrong, sometimes propaganda or theology can be noble pursuits, but what they aren't is science.
