So one of Trump's first actions was to pardon everyone who tried to violently overthrow the United States government four years ago.

Think about that, journalists, as you continue to normalize a regime that plans to wipe out what you do (if you do it with integrity, that is).

@dangillmor@mastodon.social So pardoning your family and allies at the last second is okay, but doing it upfront is evil?

@tyil @dangillmor Look, fuck Genocide Joe any day of the week, yes, but there’s a bloody galaxy and a half of difference between pardoning innocent people you think a fascist is about to persecute and pardoning people who attempted to overthrow a democratically-elected government.

@aral@mastodon.ar.al @dangillmor@mastodon.social Both seem to boil down to "pardoning for personal reasons" to me. You can't be in favour of it when it suits you then be upset when it doesn't suit you, unless you want to look like some sort of hypocrite. Be real, be honest, and reject bad faith actions regardless of whether the actor is in your camp or not.

"attempted to overthrow a democratically-elected government."

Are you truly this dense? How many of the 1500 was put on trial, convicted? Are you this dense that you do not see this as a problem, holding 1500 people in prison without a trial?

@aral

Are you truly this dense not to see that the proceedings, the written records of the J6 Committee are destroyed? Those people are rotting in prison because the evidence that could exonerate them is purposefully destroyed.

You have some serious flaws in your moral compass.

"there’s a bloody galaxy and a half of difference between pardoning innocent people you think a fascist is about to persecute and" pardoning innocent people a fascist already has persecuted for 4 straight years. Oops.

The sixth and fourteenth amendments have been violated en masse here, but people think it's ok because they disagree with the point of the protests (which given this is the state is a violation of the first amendment). If they think the summer of love rioters should have been treated the same as the j6 rioters, well maybe we can have a discussion. That's not what happened and will not happen, so it's just a faction wanting to punish people for wrong think. Obviously attacking the government is ok, we saw it happen for 6 months in 2020. The president and his family were forced into bunkers because the attack on the Whitehouse was so violent. Firebombs were set off at courthouses. Dozens of people were directly killed. But it's ok because they have a message the fascists agree with.

Not to mention that the people rotting in prison were very likely baited, deceived by the "government". Nancy Pelosi an her cohorts set a trap for those people to create the pretext for all what transpired afterwards - the "insurrection".

If you cannot at least suspect this, you are truly dense.

@tyil @aral very hard not to see this comment as one made in bad faith.

@Tenor2JT@mastodon.social @aral@mastodon.ar.al If you cannot see a comment you disagree with as anything but bad faith, you really need to reconsider your life choices. Reasonable, good hearted people don't just assume bad faith because they don't like the message.

@tyil @dangillmor Sounds like we've got a Political Science graduate in the audience tonight.
