It is believed that birds navigate when migrating partially by sensing the magnetic field of the earth.

Can they describe that? Can they understand the mechanics of the cross between biology and magnetic fields?

No, but they do sense it.

People often think about "spirituality" and "souls" as an idea or concept. But what if they are physically real, and we simply lack the mental capacity to understand the "how?"

@threalist This universe was designed to allow for both souls and physical evolution.

The laws of physics have to be repeatable for evolution to work.

There has to be some nondeterminism for consciousness to influence matter.

Quantum physics solves that. The statistics are absolutely predictable but the individual events are not. No violations of physical laws are required for spirit to influence matter.

I suspect the brain can detect subtle changes in "random" quantum outcomes.

The magnetic field is proven. Spirituality is not. There are even no hints at all that it might exist except our fear of eternal death. It's like dinosaurs and unicorns. Dinosaurs have left fossils. Unicorns have "left" nothing at all because they never existed.

> The magnetic field is proven. Spirituality is not.

Proven by humans, but not by birds. It is beyond their comprehension, yet they interact with it, and sense it, but they cannot describe it or prove it.

Some bird out there is insisting they can "feel a power beyond them" and next to them is a bird saying "you got a source for that?"

@threalist

People say dumb things "are for the birds" for a reason. Birds are not very smart (except crows).

We are much, much smarter. We even have in fact proven magnetism. We can measure it reliably. We have math and machines to do that.

I don't know how someone could look at the advancement of human knowledge over history and draw a line on the timeline at [current year] and be confident that now we know it all.

Really? How else do you explain Buddha, Jesus?
Not to mention when "knowing nothing" becomes a pop-culture, a virtue signal.

The Intellectual Elite always know it all, that will never change.

Socrates was trying to describe "humility", but he did not know...

@threalist

You're right, but you're arguing against a point that is considerably different from the point that I made. My actual point is that there's never been any clue or signal that spirituality is real. Nothing. People just made the whole idea up like unicorns. It's an interesting hypothesis and it's okay to investigate it, but also a fool's errand because again, there has never been any real reason to believe it's true.

@threalist

Here is a map of UFO sighting reports. Odd, isn't it? One has to wonder why ETs have such a strong preference for certain areas of the globe and such a strong dislike for others.

I've seen a fairly similar map of ghost sightings. I wish I had it here. Well, why does it look like that? Why do ghosts only like to appear in certain areas? It's almost like it is all... a very Western invention, isn't it?
