I light highlighting in ebooks and extracting those notes. But I also pirate my ebooks, so I always have a copy. I would buy them if someone offered DRM free ebooks, but no one is willing to offer such epubs except for Kobo, in very limited selections.

Right in my profile it says "buy a dead tree copy" of my book for these reasons and more. I make way less selling a dead tree copy of a book, but it's way more meaningful having this embodied physical thing in the world.
