At this point I'm down with abolishing corporations as a whole.
It was a good try but maybe something else is needed.

@gabriel

Yeah, particularly in the U.S., things are pretty darn bonkers.

One of my most radical positions, just eliminate all corporations and force a human being to own them, and to be personally responsible for anything they do.

In France, it is illegal for a "corporation" to own the media, so every media company has some old rich guy listed as the owner.

Is that... better?

In the U.S. before the 1980s, news outlets were required to give a balanced view of the news. It was called the "Fairness Doctrine."
Reagan nixed that, and I think it's responsible for so much of the absolute destruction we've seen in the past four decades.

@sj_zero @gabriel The limited liability aspect of corporations is to protect investors, not people in the corporation itself.

Both of you need to offer alternatives. Without any, you'll just kill off millions of people by destroying the systems that keep them fed, warm in winter, provided with electricity which is a sine qua non of civilized life today etc.

Don't say "government" since that's almost no accountability, especially for the above particularly large scale entities.

Problem with Fairness Doctrine is fair according to who? As long as 2 unique views are represented, they can claim it's fair and that anything else is fringe BS.

Then if it's the govt inspecting to verify fairness, then they can use bad faith claims of unfair reporting to shut down dissident media.

The French idea is to accept that everyone is going to say what they want to say, but just to let people know who they are...
