Microsoft did too good of a job copying the Dreamcast and ended up becoming Sega.

@mitchconner The curse of Sega: Being a decade ahead of your time despite never once having your shit together in time for launch.

Still managed to have better online functionality than the PS2, just saying.

"And get your heads out your asses and put a voodoo chip in there already."

@mitchconner People still buy / rent private servers so that they can play phantasy star online & produce homebrew games for the Dreamcast.

Pretty impressive for a console that has technically been dead for 20+ years.

That was wayyyy ahead of its time, damn shame really

@Spookie @mitchconner The Saturn too, people forget that Sega was about 15 years ahead of the curb when it came to online console gaming.

Idk why it flopped, i guess people just werent ready yet

@Spookie @mitchconner It was yet another (unfortunate) case of Sega not having their shit together despite being a decade ahead of the game.

Dreamcast could have absolutely dominated the home console market if they had just waited and included a damn DVD player.

I also heard back in the day that Microsoft had a beef with them over the Windows CE licensing. They asked Sega to help with the Xbox and Sega said no and so Microsoft was like okay fine but you can't have our license for Windows CE anymore and they printed it on the side of the damn console even though it didn't actually ship with it on the firmware.

@mitchconner Graphically, Dreamcast was capable of everything the PS2 was capable of.

Hell, people often complained that "HD" ports of Dreamcast titles to the PS2 were drab and less colorful.

A tragic case of unrealized potential, most definitely.

@mitchconner Back when game companies actually cared about making games.

@mitchconner the xbox started heavily based on the dream cast due to Sega working with Microsoft to get Windows CE on the thing. Anyway dont ever besmirch the name of pure Sega arcade kino by comparing it to MIcroshit. Sega made games back when games were you know games and not skinner boxes spewing heroin for hoards of 80 iq pigeons

@KaiserKitty @mitchconner We are not judged for our greatness but the greatness we inspire in others
