@eriner
or bacon!
If you have an opportunity, get the pork chop at Perry's Steakhouse. This would likely be part of my last meal if I was going to be the recipient of a state sponsored termination of life.
I love them slow cooked in basic bitch tomato sauce and served with mashed tates. The more fat on the chop, the better.
I think we're goin' down btw.
You may not like it, but this is what pork performance looks like.
@eriner โ it could kill me, so I get a pass, right? ๐
You're the second person I've ever met who has an allergy to pork. Wow! I didn't think it was a thing until I met that first person. I loooove pork (and Portuguese culture is alllll about pork based food) so that would have sucked for me. Sorry to hear that you've got it too.
I love a good pork chop.
@Dan_Ramos -- if only it was just pork! Not eating (or breathing) any mammal foods has been a *huge* adjustment. I especially miss bacon and butter.
Definitely avoid getting a tick bite in areas with lots of alpha-gal syndrome cases! The rat-poop inspectors in our county (central Missouri) estimate up to about 30-40% of the population here has AGS.
(People here probably get tired of me talking about this, but I feel compelled to help educate people about this bioweapon madness.)
The reality of it being an allergy to a specific sugar molecule found in mammal meat after it is injected into the bloodstream by ticks is something way more interesting (and tragic for people who get it). The world is infinitely more complex than we might imagine it is, isn't it?
@MountainJay @eriner
I choose death by ribeye.
My understanding is that tick bites being the cause of AGS is still mostly based on correlation of their geographic distributions. And that the direct causal mechanisms are still being researched and up for debate. Chiggers and mosquitoes are also being studied as possible vectors.
In the meantime, weโre still trying to avoid tick bites, since it does seem to reaggravate/intensify symptoms.
@sj_zero @Dan_Ramos @MountainJay @eriner There's also some specific remediation you can do to avoid ticks on your own property.
A simple in principle one is to provide your local outdoor mice population with pyrethroid treated bedding, like make tubes with treated (by yourself) cotton in them and leave them outside. that will even make for happier mice
Unfortunately that won't help all that much with lone star ticks which are implicated with the syndrome:
@Sirensabotage โ I hear that pretty frequently from people who have yet to get AGS around here. They fold pretty quickly though once daily pain and misery ensues. ๐ฌ๐คช
I recently wrote in one of the essays for one of my next books that space is not the final frontier -- there are new frontiers everywhere, we just need to understand they're there and underexplored.

@sj_zero @Dan_Ramos @MountainJay @eriner Yeah, this is an allergen exposure thing, it's not easy like Koch's postulates (as modified for viruses) where you've got a pathogen you can find easy correlations with. So my advice is more for the much nastier and in some ways often harder to deal with stuff they are known to give us, like Lyme Disease bacteria.
@eriner pork chops? uh, I think you better test me yes repeatedly, at least three or four pork chops to be sure.
