Imagine being my Gramma...Having to wash your clothes on a wash board, piece by piece, then run it through a roller to get the water out, hang it up outside to dry, and then iron everything with a heavy iron she heated on her wood stove, using the wood she had to probably split first....Sheets, underwear, doilies...Everything was ironed and starched...and that was just laundry.

My grandma had to go down to the stream to wash clothes...

Yep...The ringer thing was a later luxury. So many people from today, would probably die if they had to live like our grandparents did.

My dad didn't have running water until he was like 11. My grandma was blind and if she was going to use water she'd have to draw it from the well.

The hedonic treadmill is real, we always have to be aware of it.

@sj_zero my mom...had to use an outhouse, because of that too...and out heated stones in the bed to warm them up...Winters were cold...but...she also got homemade ice cream when there was snow outside, made by my grampa. Yeah, it was cold, when it was cold...but it sure was delicious. I know because, he used to make it for me too, and we'd eat ice cream together...I'd love to be able to do that again. ❤️
