Randomly, I went to best buy to get a 4 foot Ethernet cable. They wanted 35 bucks. 35! As in, buying two 4 foot Ethernet cables is worth more than a 500GB nvme ssd!

@sj_zero Best Buy: we got the shit you can't wait for

The funniest thing is, I was willing to pay between 10 and 15 bucks, and I walked about 50 feet to another store and paid 12 bucks each for a 15 foot Ethernet cable.

@sj_zero I was a Best Buy Smurf in high school and it remains one of the weirdest jobs I've ever had, and I've done evictions, worked construction, and helped launch the wet fart that's Bing

@Gelatinousrube @sj_zero Surely, you have a photo as a BB Smurf.

@virvallis @sj_zero I do not! I was kind of homeless (terrible parents). I was working on things like finding meals, lame

(Things are much better now and have been for many years.)

@Gelatinousrube @sj_zero An actual Smurf costume or is this a nomenclature for being in some role at BB?

@virvallis @sj_zero I haven't been into one in years but at the time the shirts were blue and the pants were meant to be light khaki so we called ourselves smurfs 🤣

@Gelatinousrube @sj_zero Didn’t Dwight Shrute work at BB? Or was it OfficeMax or maybe Staples?

@virvallis @sj_zero I think it was Staples? I remember that

@sj_zero Cables and small things like that are their profit margin. That and mobile phones where they get a commission. No profit in TVs any more.

I miss Fry's because they had that sort of thing at a reasonable price.

Why don't you have your own cat5e and crimping heads¿

Never came up until I started running a server farm.

I've got tons of cat6, got a crimping kit coming in.
