Periodic reminder that almost 50 years ago the United States built and launched the Voyager 1 and 2 probes. Those have been sending back data dutifully for half a century, still discovering shit we never knew

@graf >"You're welcome, humanity."
@graf One of the coolest things ever done in my opinion
@MeBigbrain @graf any nation outside a white one will totally achieve the same, annnny minute now...totally

@bloggerski We will never have another era like we did https://www.businessinsider.com/nasa-voyager-pictures-...
@Xenophon @bloggerski I was just a newborn 😔
@graf @bloggerski 🥽 🥼
@graf They dont gorilla drop test voyager probes
@graf I have several sets of chinesium special tools that came free with the replacement parts needed to keep this iPhone 7 marginally functioning. I don’t think Voyager had three bladed Phillip’s head screws.
@GenesRus What do you use the triwing for? iPhones always used pentalobe screws
@graf Voyager outlived my grandpa (he built them)
@graf They recently had to shut down some data capturing equipment. Not because it broke 50 years later in the void of interstellar space... but because it was finally running low on electricity.

@PunishedD crazy
@graf I too enjoy keeping old technology alive
@TeaTootler @graf enough about yourself
@graf Imagine what we could accomplish if humanity got its shit together.
One of the biggest mind fucks that I had recently was realizing by the time you get out to the outer rim planets the sun is showing like 1% of the light that it did, so even in broad daylight the human eye can probably barely see anything.

@graf @bloggerski masters of photoshop
@brimshae @graf One of those free repair tools came with a magnetic parts pad that was a picture of the IPhone guts with the location of the different screws as color coded dots. The “triwing” abominations were a different thread diameter or pitch than the Phillips head ones. User serviceability has really become an issue. Bastards!
It is quite amazing Neptune was just a theory based on its gravitational influences on other objects.
@The_Almighty_Kek @sj_zero @PunishedD @graf They come up with all this convoluted astrophysics just to learn that I'm rollin' up on a mf.
