@TrevorGoodchild Hard choice. I give it to the Rapier, if only for Sid Meier's Pirates nostalgia.
@TrevorGoodchild Thermal katana
@TrevorGoodchild I really want to say rapier or longsword or cutlass or cavalry-sabre, but it's gladius.
@NoDoxGregBrady Romans figured out first that penetrating thoracic/abdominal trauma is the way you win. Not flashy, very effective. Respect.
@TrevorGoodchild Longsword because sometimes you just need to club a bitch.
@badneighbor Also a longsword enjoyer myself
@NoDoxGregBrady @TrevorGoodchild Gladius was invented by the "Portuguese" (Proto-Brazilians) btw
@ins0mniak @TrevorGoodchild The Atlantean
@TrevorGoodchild Ngl. Broadsword. There's a reason it overtook the longsword after late 1500s.
@TrevorGoodchild Zweihänder natürlich
Do I get a horse? Infantry, cavalry, or marine?
Am I in a century or maniple? Can we march in a testudo?
Am I fighting street criminals or Parthian archers?
So many questions before the question can really be answered.
But for ordinary daily usage there is only one answer: rapier.

@TrevorGoodchild falchion.

@Some_German_Guy @TrevorGoodchild Cool, but I prefer the Messer.
You can see the humble origin in the knife-like hilt.

@Glassjaw @ins0mniak @TrevorGoodchild "Conan, what is best in life?"
@Glassjaw @The_Killah29 @ins0mniak "Do you want to live forever?"
@TrevorGoodchild for me it's the scazmatar
One of my favorite lines from Romeo and Juliet: "fetch me my longsword, ho."
In that play, of course, the longsword was basically useless against contemporary rapiers.

@TrevorGoodchild For practicality, I’d go with gladius. I have rudimentary fencing skills and enjoy the rapier more, but gladius is a killer’s tool.
@sj_zero @TrevorGoodchild Not if you have armor 😁
@TrevorGoodchild Favorite? Longsword.
The one I actually own? This one:
https://www.staktools.com/products/meridious-sword
Which I got back when it was still made by Reapr. On sale for $15. 😤

@TrevorGoodchild Katana
@TrevorGoodchild @Glassjaw @The_Killah29 @ins0mniak Fuck yes I just watched this movie yesterday.
@TrevorGoodchild The gladius for me. I can wear one in a thigh or back sheath and most people don't even notice it. Great for chimpout deterrence.
@BrazilianContrarian @NoDoxGregBrady @TrevorGoodchild Portugal as “Lesser Brazil”
@Kalogerosstilitis2RevengeoftheJunta @sj_zero @TrevorGoodchild Give me my Zweihander.
@TrevorGoodchild @badneighbor that’s what she said
@MCMLXVIIOTG @TrevorGoodchild I want to slash with the Kitana but per all the comments it'll have to be gladius for brutal stabbings
@MCMLXVIIOTG @joancallamezzo123 @TrevorGoodchild In times of chaos, the best way of survival may require brutal slashing.
I'll go with the katana.
I'll go with the katana.
@Bunsen @MCMLXVIIOTG @TrevorGoodchild Slashing movement feels more natural
@joancallamezzo123 @MCMLXVIIOTG @TrevorGoodchild I'm not even Japanese, but the katana is amazing.
@Bunsen @joancallamezzo123 @MCMLXVIIOTG @TrevorGoodchild Katana 😌👍🏻
@TrevorGoodchild Bastard Sword.
@TrevorGoodchild I rike Gladius. Gladius III for Supah Famicom velly fun.
But seriously, I want a decently-made sword, but I don't thousand-dollars want one just yet, if at all, since my dominant hand has been smashed multiple times at work.

@TrevorGoodchild Gladius. Sorry, nobody's ever looked cooler wielding a sword then Russell Crowe and gladiator. Very formative movie in my earlier years.
@MCMLXVIIOTG @TrevorGoodchild Oof that thing looks scary
