Though I have relatives who live there, they are all Democrats who loathe Trump. I don’t know if they voted for Mamdani (I’m thinking they voted for Cuomo), but at any rate, they are screwed.

Second, they didn't elect him so much as paint themselves into a corner by voting for to exchange liberty for free stuff under Chavez.
By the time "Bus Driver Maduro" was hand picked as a successor to Chavez, Venezuela had a Cuban style Democracy where the veneer of choice was even thinner than it is in America.
