I loved Electronic Boutique back in the day. Buybacks were cheap enough and game prices were low enough that I was able to spend the summer playing different PC games on a broke-ass high school student's money.
I went back years later, and it's like "Holy crap, these games are so expensive, and they want to buy my old ones for HOW MUCH? Forget that!" -- actually did pawn shops for a while in the ps2 era.

Was in there recently getting Christmas gifts. More games on the shelves than in the picture, but it was like 50-50.
Yes, but it also killed excitement in the industry. There being SOME scarcity of software created buzz around if you could even get a hold of a game (you had to be involved in the launch of N64 to experience it) and the industry in general.
I get why the industry went the way it did, but it has had its negative effects.
EB and Babbages were my go-to's. Our mall, which is still very full and without any real vacancies, doesn't even have a videog game store any more.
