Honestly everyone who put money into this game should sue
And also sue Asmongold for helping hype it too, people got scammed so hard

@eris online games are crazy saturated to an insane level currently, who were the absolute parasites in some big studios that said the future is entirely multiplayer games and that single player games are gonna be a thing of the past? Practically all big recent releases has failed the hell out
@coolboymew I think the issue with MMOs is way more bleak than even that because it requires billions to develop and persist when devs just don't know what made WoW successful. There's a lot of ways to make an online game but to make a persistent open world that generates a profit is another beast.
Ashes was supposed to be this dynamic sandbox game where villages are created as a result of player actions, each server looks different because their players take different actions, players control the politics, all with a class fantasy too, so its hype went above and beyond what was promised by other failed MMOs.
Early release comes out and it's worse than Elder Scrolls Online lol

@eris Oof, yeah, that sounds absolutely insane. Hero shooters cost enough as it is, then there's MMOs, then there's MMOs with features like this...
You know, I've always wished to see a game with OOT like graphics do insane things, as they wouldn't have to focus on raw graphics, but actual content instead, but nobody will ever put big money into stuff like that

@coolboymew @eris i've heard someone say that the grind is actually an important part of mmorpgs
by spending retarded number of hours in the game you get a larger attachment to the world compared to modern "buy pass and immediately skip to max level" offerings

@hakui @eris Yes/No
I love grinding in JRPGs but I've never stomached MMOs back then. Then again I suppose I was playing extremely slop. Maplestory was booooooooring. Grind in place for hours to do 0 progress whatsoever. Then there was Ragnarok online (private server) where there I sniffed and as far as I'm aware, there's 0 content whatsoever in that game, what am I even grinding for?
I tried a bunch of other MMOs here and there... What was it... Global Agenda? I always end up dropping them quickly, they're just not fun to play and god do I not care about playing with people
The only one that could maybe change my mind is DQX and it's not easily available, but I imagine the grind sucks there too

@hakui @coolboymew ironically all of the main MMOs let you buy a level skip
@eris @coolboymew yes that's why all the main mmorpgs are dead and the actual successful one is oldschool runescape
@coolboymew @eris i never got far in maplestory but i sure had fond memories of a few hundred hours derping in it
@hakui @coolboymew I wish Blizzard would learn from OSRS to make a Classic+. Keep the game the same but pour love into it still.
@eris @coolboymew didn't they release a classic server a while back
the problem is that they're just slowly rereleasing the expansions on it which just slopifies it again anyway

My brother really wanted me to play WoW back in the day. I played for an entire weekend, and made it to I think level 10, and reached a spot where I found some soft banana bread, but I was not yet battle-hardened enough to eat the soft banana bread. That's after buying it in a box, paying for access, and playing pretty hard.
The next weekend, I played the newly released Bioshock for the first time, and it was a reminder that single player games are paced so much faster than MMOs.
I've played plenty of JRPGs too, and even those are much quicker unless you're doing some crazy challenge run. And you're not paying a monthly fee for the privilege.
