I am significantly unhappy with my red common creatures. nothing I can put my finger on, per se. They’re incoherent. The names, the art style, the flavor text. On the other hand, there is an overwhelming sameness about their abilities.
I think I have to go back to scratch and start over.

Don't know what you're talking about but this reads like a tweet from Trump on Truth Social about his MAGA base..

How long have you been making customs for? Did you start by analyzing a few handfuls of basic Red cards from other sets?
I’ve been playing since 1996 and making my own cards since 2018.
this is the second custom draftable set I’ve designed. the first one was a small set: 169 cards. this one is 285.
because of the way the commons are organized, it’s necessary to create a larger number of monocolored creatures than in a typical set. this is because, out of 125 common cards, the first 15 are neither monocolored nor creature. so the monocolored commons have to carry more creatures per capita.
furthermore, this is a “battlefield” set rather than a “stack” set, so combat matters a lot. the creatures have to be interesting and synergistic.
the character of the several colors matters too. Red’s identity in this set is “finish the game now” rather than control or incremental value. Im not great at designing interesting aggro creatures.
there are a lot of influences that have come together to make this tranche of cards a bigger challenge than I would have anticipated.
this is not a bad thing; it will just require more thinking and creative work.
