@SuperSnekFriend I'm actually far from home rn for work, so I've never been to this theater before
@bleedingphoenix @SuperSnekFriend Could niggers be there?
Modern Japanese movies have a lot of issues (overly saccharine) but since the pandemic there have been a lot of interesting movies that have come out. If you want some recommendations I'm happy to give you some.
@nozaki @theorytoe I'd be down for some recommendations. between this and Shin Kamen Rider I'll have seen two live-action japanese movies in theaters
I recently viewed the 2000 movie adaptation of Parasite Eve, and I found it to be quite impressive.
Unlike America, Japan has a remarkable ability to transform video games into films without compromising their essence.

@MelGibsonafter4Beers @theorytoe @nozaki I really need to get around to playing that game, or just survival horror in general.
@nozaki @theorytoe I forgot to reply to this but probably action, though I can go for anything if it's got a good story.
Shin Godzilla and Shin Kamen Rider were "Dark and Gritty" adaptions done right. Hideaki Anno is truly a master of his art.
Parasite Eve is basically the lovechild of Resident Evil and Final Fantasy with a "genetically superior" Aryan supersoldier (Aya Brea) as the protagonist.
Peak 90s survival horror.

@MelGibsonafter4Beers The first PE had the plot. But the 2nd one nailed the combat system.
@MelGibsonafter4Beers @theorytoe @nozaki my friends and I enjoy making films and I'd really like to do a survival horror movie at some point, the aesthetic of these kinds of games and their cinematography with the fixed camera angles are very appealing to me.
If you enjoy horror films, you should definitely watch Ringu and Audition; these two movies were ripped off by Hollywood to create the Saw and Ring franchises.
Suffice to say, Japanese horror far surpasses that of America.

@monsterislandcolonizer I beat the game and personally I think the movie was even better, managed to relay the exact playing experience of the game and some of the anomalies, plus a solid story with original anomalies to pair with it. very good.
Maybe you guys can finally make the George Romero Resident Evil movie that ((((Hollywood)))) strangled in the cradle.
Still can't comprehend how the studio executives fumbled that blatantly golden opportunity.

@MelGibsonafter4Beers @theorytoe @nozaki between my admiration for survival horror aesthetics and my friend group's love for Black Ops Zombies we'll make real kino (some day)
What I love most about authentic survival horror is its ability to demonstrate that a "basic white suburban dad" and his love for his Tomboy daughter are more powerful any Space Marine or a Mary Sue AAA power fantasy protagonist.
The survival horror games from the early 2000s have stood the test of time, impressively. I truly can't grasp why contemporary game developers are so fixated on remaking everything.
The Silent Hill and Resident Evil titles from that era honestly look better than the majority of the AAA slop that is released today.

@MelGibsonafter4Beers @theorytoe @nozaki it is kinda funny how irrelevant Jill has become in the modern RE world, Leon is the sex symbol now lol
Leon unfortunately contracted terminal stage 3 yellow fever and is currently jeopardizing the survival of the Redfield bloodline. Ancestors Cry.
The power of the basic white suburban Dad survival horror protagonist comes from his goodwill army jacket.
Fact.
