Why on Earth don't they have a fedi presence?
#Encyclosphere #KSF

I can't find a list of encyclopedias that are a part of it.

@taylan Is feministwiki.org part of it? If not why don't you get it added?

@Hyolobrika I'd look into it but when I follow the link under "how it will work (technical details)" it's a 404. :\

Other niche wikis that could be part of it are prolewiki.org (cc: @moffintosh) and psychonautwiki.org, as well as all the fandom.org and miraheze wikis

@taylan This seems to be the current state of things: https://wiki.encyclosphere.org/Projects

@taylan I think for now you just have to get it added to those search engines. They haven't really worked it all out yet.

@silverpill That's probably better actually.

1) More likely to take off because it's tied to an existing and already popular standard (ActivityPub)

2) Has an actual path to decentralisation (ActivityPub again)

But they should still work with each other IMO. For instance, they could adopt the ZWI format and instances could be added to the Encyclosphere search engines.

@silverpill Also, have you heard of Freenet-Locutus? The creator (who is the founder of the old Freenet, Ian Clarke) wants to create a decentralised Wikipedia on it that uses the technology behind X’s Community Notes.

@silverpill Although. If you think about it, it's not more decentralised than the Encyclosphere in it's current state. You still need an entry point to access other wikis. It's just that that entry point is a wiki rather than a specialised search engine (?)

@Hyolobrika Yes, I've heard of it, but I'm not following the development of this platform.

He should also use ActivityPub. Small experimental networks were necessary in 2000s and maybe even in 2010s, but today, after two decades of experimentation with decentralized applications, we need to focus on actually solving the problem

@silverpill Fediverse can only come close to solving the problem if it adopts a relay-and-signature-based (Nostr-like) architecture. And that may or may not happen.

@silverpill Could a relay-based architecture work for a decentralized wiki maybe? I'm not sure.

@silverpill Also having lots of people experimenting with different things is good. It brings resilience.

@Hyolobrika Also: leftypedia.miraheze.org/

@Hyolobrika
> prolewiki.org

Don't cite me on dengoid central

@moffintosh Oh I forgot. I thought you liked it

@moffintosh I mentioned miraheze

https://leftypedia.miraheze.org/wiki/Socialism
>Social ownership can be through the state [blue link], through a collective [red link] or cooperative [red link], or of equity [red link], in the sense of shares of ownership in businesses.[10]
I take it they are the more statist kind of socialists then lol

@Hyolobrika FEP-ef61 is similar to Nostr and I think it can be implemented in all existing ActivityPub applications. Including Ibis

@Hyolobrika If those people are re-inventing wheels (most of them are), this is just a waste of time. In order to make a difference your network should become as widely used as email while remaining decentralized. And Fediverse can be that network.
