@tpostmillennial I think that this new bill is hurtful to freedom loving individuals, we should all report the government for their hurtful content
@humanetech @emacsen Do you have your eye on lotide? It's a link aggregator like reddit, and I'm really enamored with it. Wish it had a bit more traction. Unlike its primary competitor, you can participate in lotide communities on mastodon, pleroma, and soapbox because of the way it uses activitypub.
Hey @fediblock you nazi gestapo piece of garbage!
Add my instance to your list of wrongthinkers already! I'll call you whatever slurs you need me to! I'll even call you doubleplus ungood like a good orwellian!
The fediverse will be better for everyone on the libre Internet if all you nazi gestapo who can't handle hearing an idea you don't agree with can just segregate yourselves into the bad part of the Internet! You're doing us a favor!

@realcaseyrollins because when you're the most privileged class on the face of the earth you need to make shit up to see like you're still oppressed
I don't want to be misunderstood -- it's tragic and it's morally reprehensible, but in a sense it's hilarious to watch -- a lot of native individuals working at remote sites are losing their jobs this month thanks to Trudeau's vaccine mandates.
Juxtapose that with the fake shame the same government expresses for forcing a bunch of native kids to go to school "for their own good", and the joke becomes clear: The disingenuous politicians apologizing for one violation of human rights while teeing up the next. Don't worry though, that last time they were forced to do something "for their own good" that harmed them it was wrong, but this time they're forcing people to do something "for their own good" it's totally right!
"Reconciliation" -- The joke that never ends because the federal government can't keep their grubby fingers out of people's personal lives. As long as politicians rely on the latest poll numbers to tell them how to feel about different issues, the joke will never end. How do you possibly reconcile with a psychopath with no emotions but what a sheet of paper tells them to have?

@zerohedge Demand for *fossil fuels* is only going to rise, and supply is 10 years from recovering.
The mayor of Calgary called a climate emergency and said Alberta would need to transition their economy away from fossil fuels because there'd be no way to run an economy extracting fossil fuels in 20 years.
This is because she's stupid. The next 2 years will fully vindicate everyone who has been saying that you can't just "transition away from fossil fuels" without causing mass suffering of the poorest people in society.
Alberta's coming back, baby!

@selea I'm glad to hear that the already abysmal settings app has become even worse.
There should be a mass purge at Microsoft just for that settings app. It's pathetic, even after almost a decade to get it right!

I just now realized that all this "that is a slur" crap is just doublespeak. Particularly with "ableist".
"You're stupid" oh you can't call me stupid because a stupid person might be offended!
How self-serving.
Literally "touch grass" "Go outside" oh you can't say that, what if someone who can't touch grass or go outside due to physical disabilities?
If you're the armless legless wonder with an IQ of 60 and you can't do anything but sit and cry that the Internet is saying offensive words, then those offensive words are the least of your troubles, mate!
The purpose isn't to "not be offensive", it's just to silence all criticism by taking away any words you can use to say someone is bad until it's just "doubleplus ungood"

@Linux_in_a_Bit @realcaseyrollins pleroma has the "unsubscribe from this thread" button as I recall.
I admit sometimes I stay away from certain threads because I don't need my notifications buzzing for days over something I intended to snipe a reply in and forget about!

@hn100 I don't think it's going to last forever. Many workers, even advanced ones, are much less productive working from home. Once the current crisis is over I expect bosses will start to realize.
@lain @barrett The absurd amount of money the government costs would become quickly apparent and people would stop demanding more of it.
Imagine, the US federal budget every single year could buy like the top 5 companies on the NYSE.
Not to mention, where do you think those top 5 companies got their insane fortunes from?

@lain @barrett The whole "unrealized gains" thing is effectively nationalizing all property.
ESPECIALLY when the government is instituting policies that mean that you need to use more dollars to buy the exact same amount of stuff. You haven't gained -- If you had a lump of value dust that cost enough money to pay your rent, bills, and feed your family for a month 20 years ago, then in terms of dollars that value dust nearly doubled in dollars, but it'll still only pay your rent, bills, and feed your family for a month... Except it won't because if you sell your value dust you had a "profit" because of monetary policy.

After the restrictions and the pandemic are over (assuming that happens), I think people miss other people, and there's going to be a huge opportunity for conventions that help people socialize. It really makes me think about the attitude of some cosplayers and the like.... it's like... stay home if you don't want the nerds talking to you.
Coming into *their* social space and bitching that they have the gall to talk to you is sociopathic.

Randomly, got in an argument with someone who thinks America can and should base their entire economy on engineering and administration and have all production done in China.
It's absurd and stupid. The best part is when he says things like "who would go to college to work in a factory?"
To think that someone doesn't realize that folks actually do go to college to get industrial jobs is to show how disconnected from reality one is.
Not to mention calls for "muh global economy" as if prosperity in Uzbekistan magically feeds a family in Iowa

I have said for a long time that if Jon Stewart was still doing his thing, he might have criticized Trump during his presidency, but I think he would have been on the attack with respect to the media just the same as many people who ended up supporting Trump did.
There's problems beyond one candidate or another that need to be resolved, and focusing on left vs. right, or biden vs. trump is allowing those problems to continue to be ignored.

@coolboymew original content do not steal
@biomedmax @coolboymew I did it once after a car accident. After 8 hours in the ER, we decided that if either of us were going to die we would have died already.
