Advocate for freedom and tolerance even if you say things I do not like

Adversary of Fediblock

Accept that I'll probably say something you don't like and I'll give you the same benefit, and maybe we can find some truth about the world.

Ah... Is the Alliteration clever or stupid? Don't answer that, I sort of know the answer already...

@BadaBing753 Capitalism works. The firms that hire the best of the best with no regard for meaningless stuff will outcompete racist ones like this.

Shout out to the people I disagree with who are able to engage in respectful discussion.

You know who you are, and you're terrific. Vigorous debate is the best way to seek truth.

@verita84 I'm sure it does. I'm more of the mind that there were corners cut by the Trump administration and that's how we got a vaccine so quickly, and there will be consequences in the long term. I keep referring to Thalidomide, DDT, and Asbestos -- all things that worked very well but also had unexpected side effects over time.

@mrmcmayhem This is my favorite argument against the "government investments pay for themselves" discussion.

If government investments paid for themselves, then nobody should be paying any taxes at this point, since there's been so much government investment over the years!

@nameredacted @MechaSilvio @grey That's a good point. From what I'm seeing, it's going to be a particularly cold winter in China, and I strongly believe that will extend to the rest of us. Just finished getting a couple big gas cans with some fuel stabilizer and a generator just in case.

@solexid @polychrome do you know da way?

@Phil @CONSERVATARIAN That's a really good point. Basically, if Biden succeeds then the left better hope they're in charge forever, because if someone they don't like becomes president, then presumably they can just use OSHA to implement de facto mandates for whatever policy they want.

We know that fatherless households promote crime which is unsafe so if you aren't married and you have kids then you must lose your job. Sorry! We know that trans people tend to commit suicide more, committing suicide is unsafe, so if you are trans then you must lose your job. Sorry! You know we're just trying to ensure a safe workplace!

Even if you're a leftist progressive, this *must* fail because the left won't always be in power, and if you remove checks and balances then you allow your enemies to act without checks and balances as well.

@weebsh I feel this right in my balls!

I'm not interested in internet multiplayer. Haven't been interested in internet multiplayer since it first became a thing. I may well die not being interested in internet multiplayer.

My favorite bit is when they take games that I did like and try to change them into multiplayer-only games. They tried to do that with Legacy of Kain for crissakes!

@jeffcliff @Ovpod I won't pretend anyone was purely innocent in this. Obviously someone ended up dead.

Having lived in the far north (I don't right now) I got to see the really complicated and really upsetting reality that exists. There's hate on all sides, and only someone living in downtown Toronto who has never had to experience the situation outside of some pseudo-missionary trip could see anyone as a purely good guy or purely bad guy. There's some pretty bad guys involved though, but nobody has a monopoly on them.

I think the situation can be different, but change can't come from the federal government throwing money at the problem. There are much more local problems that need to be solved locally. As long as we allow locals to scapegoat someone a 4-day roadtrip away for all their problems, then those problems will never be resolved and things will never improve.

@jeffcliff @Ovpod That case pissed me off.

They were armed with a rifle, they were drunk, they were acting haywire. I don't care what race you are, they were courting disaster. This just happened to be the disaster they found.

Justifying such behaviour because of their race is insanely racist.

I made it about 15 seconds into the podcast before I had to stop. "Innocent" -- yeah, right. Maybe we should release an "innocent" group of people behaving like that in your back yard, we'll see how "innocent" you think they are then.

@sickburnbro Domestic flights, no border guards involved.

@sickburnbro der fuhrer has pronounced that you need eine papers before you can hop on a plane now.

@matrix @parker @natsock @adalberht I did specifically because of the point I was making -- GDP isn't magic. Just saying "But it'll make the GDP higher!" doesn't mean a thing is justified. The GDP is much higher in China, yet that doesn't mean it's a better place to live.

Shipping a bunch of poor people into the country so they can work for slave wages will increase the GDP, but that doesn't mean it'll make it a better place to live.

@sickburnbro I'm feeding my family.

If I gotta take risks to keep a roof over our heads and food in our bellies, then it sucks but that's my duty as head of the household.

That said, the data simply doesn't support the hypothesis. I know hundreds of people who routinely fly. Weekly, or monthly, and right now you can't get on a plane without a jab. The data doesn't support the idea that jab + plane = death. I'd know *someone* who died, and I simply don't.

@duckduckgo Itsa me! Mario!

@sickburnbro Also, I'd recommend not going on planes for like 5 years.

uh oh, I've only been on like 80 flights since the beginning of the pandemic

@zerohedge How bad do things have to be for how long before I can officially call my stagflation predictions 100% correct and true?

@grey @MechaSilvio Remember the videos of people just dying in the street in China? It was effective propaganda, but now we know it's obviously false because we know how the coof works, and it doesn't work like that.

@matrix @parker @natsock @adalberht I'm afraid not. GDP is measured as GDP. GDP per capita is measured as GDP per capita. They're called different things because they are different measurements.

Besides which, even if you take "GDP" as meaning "GDP per capita", not all GDP is created equal. Let's take two transactions: In one transaction, one million people buy or sell something for $1,000. In another, a bank is lent 500 million dollars by the government then pays it back. While technically they both result in $1B added to GDP, one results in meaningful economic activity, and the other results in no net change in anything. The same people exist in the economy so they have the same effect on per capita GDP, but just because money moves doesn't mean that movement is productive, particularly when you're talking about the government part of the equation.

@boilingsteam you're not wrong. Their support for Linux is extremely incidental.
