Adversary of Fediblock

Accept that I'll probably say something you don't like and I'll give you the same benefit, and maybe we can find some truth about the world.

Ah... Is the Alliteration clever or stupid? Don't answer that, I sort of know the answer already...

Birdsite takeover company staffing politics
That's a good point. Honestly, he probably just shouldn't have bought twitter. It was good for the memes, but what he wants isn't compatible with what he bought.

How many people declare they're quitting smoking then actually do it?

re: Birdsite takeover meme
I dunno, I think the entire tech industry requires mass layoffs. Any other industry this filled with overpaid people who don't actually do anything associated with the core business would have been moved to China or Bangladesh without prejudice long ago.

We have our friends at kiwi farms and now our friends the establishment journalists on here. Two sides of the same poison coin. Violate their personal code of conduct and your personal life can be up for grabs.

At that point, you have two options: either present yourself as an inoffensive gruel so nobody ever feels the need to go after you, or take some basic measures to protect yourself.

To be honest though, I'm particularly worried now that the journalists have arrived. Even if we assume the best faith on their part, how long until companies that do spam for a living realize there's this fertile ground for spam, with articles in every magazine about how great and open it is?

Unfortunately, as long as there are bad actors out there security on the internet will inevitably return to a deny any model eventually.

Despite what Citizens United claims, corporations are not people.

They do not have thoughts or feelings, they are legalistic machines.

If they're pretending to support your cause, it's not because they support your cause, it's because their management have made a calculation and decided that there's more value in claiming to support a cause than not, and the moment the calculus changes, then they will change what they support.

With the current change in public sentiment and assuming the midterm elections go the way the polls look like they'll go, just watch how fast the companies that were all-in on Democrat causes switch sides.

Particularly early on I had to unfollow some people for that reason, so you're not wrong.

I guess the question just has to be how sinister is the algorithm? Because I would argue that a "let's find anything that looks like you will interact with it" algorithm could potentially be a really great for getting your blood pressure up but not that great for improving things overall. On the other hand, something like a weighted thing so your feed isn't completely overwhelmed by people who post every 30 seconds it could help you see a greater cross-section of the posts from people you follow...

Definitely a different kind of experience when you're following a few hundred people.on peak times the feed blasts by quickly!

I tend to agree with you in the first two points, but I think for a lot of people the third point is a feature not a bug.

It's tough for people to wrap their heads around just how much money the federal government throws around, or why throwing that kind of money around must always lead to insane wealth inequality.

I've been part of plenty of online communities like that. They were great.

Thing is, even if you like your online community, you shouldn't share personal information online. That's been the rule since I started on the internet in the early 90s, and it's been a good rule the whole time. It's been an even better rule since irl attacks became normal (thanks for that, our recent refugees from the establishment press)

In the "allegorically true but not literally true" basket until the story runs monday

He probably had it before the court case started. Netflix lost 80% of it's cap and they actually have a product they sell lots of.

That's a killer feature for me. Whenever 3.0.0 final drops?

Nothing Personnel, kid.
No Human Resources

fwiw fren, I feel the exact same way.

I built my corner of the fediverse to get away from the nazi gestapo who destroyed big tech with their hatred of basic human rights. Suddenly they're showing up like "oh, this is our place now."

It's like "No, we built this to get away from you. Go back to the lands you razed and leave us alone"

Timely since the press has arrived on the fediverse this weekend.

I sometimes use speech recognition and it makes the mistake and I'm like "wtf I'm not illiterate I swear"

You're cool. You can stay.
