Advocate for freedom and tolerance even if you say things I do not like

Adversary of Fediblock

Accept that I'll probably say something you don't like and I'll give you the same benefit, and maybe we can find some truth about the world.

Ah... Is the Alliteration clever or stupid? Don't answer that, I sort of know the answer already...

One of the things that actually pisses me off is these people coming in and demanding something someone else built immediately and fully cater to them.

It's like... If you want to go build a 200 year old school that has never had any affiliation with anyone you don't like, go found it. Good luck.

What's an eepsite?

I don't know why, but it gets confused sometimes. It works well generally but sometimes gets confused and shoots a 500 for no good reason. This is what it looks like normally.

Yes, lotide is only more ideal as a reddit replacement which is why I run it. I'm interested in seeing groups being implemented later on, seeing if that ends up a good replacement for reddit style conversations

It's really easy to get caught off-guard with different systems and end up relying on someone else's largesse for key services. Arguably, DNS is still a risk factor for everyone on the fediverse, but for now that's still not too dangerous. Once it becomes too dangerous I'm sure someone will come up with a decentralized alternative.

Could be a really cool resource in areas that don't have internet. You could have a self-contained box with all it's own systems, and when you log into the wifi hotspot it would have a page that automatically opens up a hotspot page listing all the services available on the unit. Imagine, you're at a kids camp or something else with a local population but no Internet access, you could give people the ability to use their fancy smart phones for local communications despite lacking outside connectivity.

It's not modern for sure. I'm oldschool so I like it. The original fbxl.net is still hand coded html/css

Lotide is pretty impressive for #1 and #3. The html on lotide is so straightforward that it gracefully degrades to the point it can be displayed on nsca mosaic (I know, I checked)

"Archaeologists have found these strange devices, which they believe the people of the era worshipped as Gods."

The insane thing is that for people who talk about sustainability, this ideology is completely unsustainable. Within a generation anyone who believes it will be dead without any descendants. They might hope they can indoctrinate other people's kids, but that too is unsustainable, as rising homeschooling rates demonstrates.

Those Toshiba Satellites are some of the most bulletproof PCs on the planet. There are still some sitting on a shelf somewhere ready to provide all the secrets of 1996, I'm certain of it.

Once again Canada is punching above its weight, probably because our dear fuhrer Trudeau is a friend to all multi-billionaires as long as they let him use their planes now and again.

There once was a chest wall high
That helped all the fellows not die
Along came dragon born
proclaimed he was forlorn
He'd have to walk around nigh

Completely agree on this point. His solution to the fiscal and monetary hole was to dig a deeper hole. Then his successors thought that digging a deeper hole was an acceptable solution because he was so wildly successful in many ways. Today that hole is so deep it's an existential threat to America.

Meanwhile around the world everyone else sees the world's superpower jumping in a lake and they go "Oh, we should jump in the lake too!" and everyone gets surprised that they're all wet.

We thought we didn't like buttons, until they went away and suddenly it became clear that physical buttons and knobs can be nice ui elements.

Why does Japan even care? They don't have any.

Prior to the modern age, kids died all the time. Infant and child mortality was quite high and women might have 10 kids to ensure they'd have one survive (and in the process the woman might die) That's in a relatively sophisticated society like the premodern west.

In that context, having a bunch of kids die for things they didn't really deserve to die for is a practical lesson.

One of the lessons that I want to teach my son is that you can fail. You can die. You can end up growing up broke and living a miserable life. You can grow up alone. you fall into drugs. you can fall into gangs. You can find yourself in a social circle that's crabs in a bucket where you can only ever be as good as the person next to you, and they all actively seek to be bad. People will tell you that it can't possibly happen, but that's just because they don't want you to feel bad in the moment and a lot of parents think that is how you are a good parent.

That's one reason why I've been trying to read pre-modern books to my son. They're written by societies that are just a little bit closer to the reality of the world, despite whatever we think.
