In Schiff's case, he points out that the middle class is where the money is with respect to taxation.

I see what you're saying, I think I said what I said in the way I said because the two things aren't really equivalent.

I've got lots of hobbies too, and did before our little one was imagined. It's not the same as the existential fulfilment I get from being a parent.

I dimly remember looking into something similar in the past, and the one problem with baking soda is that baking soda is sodium bicarbonate while the eggshells are calcium carbonate. This means that if you use a lot of baking soda you'll be introducing sodium to your garden, while if you use eggshells you'll be introducing the less toxic calcium to your garden.

I believe that many places that use salt to deice roads use calcium chloride on their roads instead of sodium chloride since the latter would destroy the plants on the side of the road.

FBXL Social started on Friendica, and it has a lot of things about it to really like. Unlike mastodon descendants, it shows threads by default. In addition, it supports federating with GnuSocial, but more importantly it natively supports RSS so you can get all kinds of great content from mainstream sources on your feed without them having to join the fediverse.

Unfortunately, federating with php just wasn't performing for me, so my posts would take forever to federate. I'll own the fact that it's probably because my server was underpowered and had too little memory and a slow spinning hard drive, but when I moved to pleroma because it was lighter, I was seeing posts federate instantly and that was enough to keep me on it. Later I moved to Soapbox-fe and rebased.

Lots of great options, and lots of options for completely different things, such as peertube for video and lotide (or lemmy) for reddit style discussion boards.

The way everything connects together seems like the future to me. The way there isn't actually a CEO of the fediverse seems like the only way forward from my perspective -- many of us saw Google go from "don't be evil" to something some of us see as objectively evil, and many people loved twitter until Elon Musk bought it. As long as one person can control everything, that person can change even if you agree with them and like them today.

I find it very weird watching people complaining that the fediverse doesn't have certain features, features that it clearly does have on thousands of instances.

If these monsters could, they'd regulate private conversations in person.

I've become a dad pretty late in life. Before he was born, all I had to look forward to was retirement and death. Now I have the future of my bloodline and watching my son grow up to look forward to.

Humans are too clever to happily eat and drink and watch TV for 100 years and die without ever having accomplished anything along the way.

While there's lots of objectionable material on freeside, even here there's lines admins and mods aren't ok with allowing to be crossed.

Recently someone went out and tried to send cp to many instances, and there was a panicked thread including many admins who immediately deleted the content and blocked the post and in some cases defederated the instance.

The articles claiming the fediverse is dangerous and filled with crime are just part of the normal attack cycle where the media, owned by big companies, attack anything that seems to be a threat to corporate hegemony. I've seen right-wing commenters breathlessly repeating such libel, apparently completely oblivious to the fact that the same exact tactics have been used against most of them personally.

Another story of Europeans being intolerant in the past. For shaaaaaaaame.

It's a good thing the useful idiots never read any book other than Harry Potter, because if they read a history book they'd realize that every single time during the revolution, the whackjobs are given a seat at the table, and the moment the revolution succeeds those same whackjobs are sent to the gulags.

They wouldn't be useful idiots if they realized this song has already been played before.
