Honestly, while it was an interesting article from a thought provoking I wouldn't want dig it up to share it because it straight-up unironically and non meme racist against Africans.

I've seen a few different articles about that sort of thing, it's interesting on a few levels.

The idea that you're looking around you, and you're seeing other people, and some of them aren't just not capable of solving the same problems as you like they're just less intelligent, but they fundamentally lack certain cognitive functions that we think of as essential to humanity. In that way, not only can you not communicate certain concepts to them because their brains just don't work that way, but they can't understand you because your brain has components to it that they can't even imagine because they don't have the machinery for it.

It would be like someone who is tetrachromatic; you can ask a person who has that condition what the world looks like, and how would they describe it to you? Your biology simply isn't set up to consider what they see as a possibility.

It's really important that we keep copies of important books and other media either in paper form or in electronic copies we control on storage we fully control and don't need to ask permission to read.

The horse is out of the barn, and imo it's only a matter of time until every idiot with a political agenda of any kind will come around to change the cloud hosted media. It's just starting with one group, but it'll expand as it becomes more common and expected.

Nobody who was alive at the time should forget the Republicans making loud arguments about how torture is totally great and it should be allowed and celebrated since the US got caught doing it. That was kind blowingly pure evil.

If they stopped letting countries with leadership with crimes against humanity under their belt from participating in the Olympics, nobody would be left who wants to host the thing.

Actually, that would be a funny project, an AI comedian whose only purpose is explaining why all jokes aren't appropriate. "I'm sorry, it isn't appropriate to make jokes about why the chicken crossed the road, because roads are a result of colonial imperialism and some people who are fearful are called chickens and we don't want to remind people of colonial imperialism or fearful people."

Reminds me of one of Peter Schiff's favorite lines from a bank robber: When asked when he robs banks, he said "Because that's where all the money is"

In Schiff's case, he points out that the middle class is where the money is with respect to taxation.

I've got lots of hobbies too, and did before our little one was imagined. It's not the same as the existential fulfilment I get from being a parent.

I dimly remember looking into something similar in the past, and the one problem with baking soda is that baking soda is sodium bicarbonate while the eggshells are calcium carbonate. This means that if you use a lot of baking soda you'll be introducing sodium to your garden, while if you use eggshells you'll be introducing the less toxic calcium to your garden.

I believe that many places that use salt to deice roads use calcium chloride on their roads instead of sodium chloride since the latter would destroy the plants on the side of the road.

FBXL Social started on Friendica, and it has a lot of things about it to really like. Unlike mastodon descendants, it shows threads by default. In addition, it supports federating with GnuSocial, but more importantly it natively supports RSS so you can get all kinds of great content from mainstream sources on your feed without them having to join the fediverse.

Unfortunately, federating with php just wasn't performing for me, so my posts would take forever to federate. I'll own the fact that it's probably because my server was underpowered and had too little memory and a slow spinning hard drive, but when I moved to pleroma because it was lighter, I was seeing posts federate instantly and that was enough to keep me on it. Later I moved to Soapbox-fe and rebased.

Lots of great options, and lots of options for completely different things, such as peertube for video and lotide (or lemmy) for reddit style discussion boards.

The way everything connects together seems like the future to me. The way there isn't actually a CEO of the fediverse seems like the only way forward from my perspective -- many of us saw Google go from "don't be evil" to something some of us see as objectively evil, and many people loved twitter until Elon Musk bought it. As long as one person can control everything, that person can change even if you agree with them and like them today.

I find it very weird watching people complaining that the fediverse doesn't have certain features, features that it clearly does have on thousands of instances.

If these monsters could, they'd regulate private conversations in person.

I've become a dad pretty late in life. Before he was born, all I had to look forward to was retirement and death. Now I have the future of my bloodline and watching my son grow up to look forward to.

Humans are too clever to happily eat and drink and watch TV for 100 years and die without ever having accomplished anything along the way.
