I personally recommend it. It's not as hard as you'd think as long as you choose software with good install instructions, and you get the freedom of having your instance however you want it.
If you've got a dedicated server and a domain name, you can also run a variety of services which is really nice. Nextcloud has been a versatile tool I use for a variety of things, and it just sits next to the other services running off a subdomain.

Despite having massively more resources and massively better tools, no Windows after 95 ever achieved the same level of total UX overhaul and consistency. 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, and 7 were largely evolutionary, vista indisputably had the biggest improvements on the UI back-end, but added a lot of shitty junk that made using it clunkier (and that started Microsoft down the path it's on today where you need to know how to crack the safe with the Hope Diamond just to set an IP address every time)
"you can run this shit off a basic gaming laptop. Please make it illegal for anyone but us to use so we can rent seek. If you don't, we'll go out of business because it doesn't really have anything that lets us be that proprietary"
If you're a reader and you like buying dead tree books on Amazon, I recommend you stock up. I publish through Amazon Kindle desktop publishing, and they've told me the printing costs will be rising in June. I suspect this will mean price increases at that time.
I know! My only hope (and it does happen) is that the electorate is just slow and eventually realizes what's happening and there's a reaction.
In Ontario, it looked like the liberal party under Kathleen Wynne could do anything and remain in power. They did all kinds of nutty things. But eventually it caught up with them and they were trounced so hard in elections that they aren't even considered an official party anymore. But it took longer than anyone would have expected.

That's a frighteningly accurate statement. The reason modern "democracy" is a constitutionally limited republic is that just because 50.00001% of people want a thing doesn't mean they should get it. We learned over centuries and failed empires that this was the case, but power is a siren's song.
I can't believe that in 2020 Donald Trump had Joe Biden publicly investigated by the FBI with no probable cause to believe a crime had been committed!
Because that's not what happened. This week it's now official that in 2016 Barack Obama had Donald Trump publicly investigated by the FBI with no probable cause to believe a crime had been committed.
For all the talk of "a threat to democracy", that's actually a threat to democracy. I mean, they tried to impeach Trump for less.

A LLM fed by wikipedia would really like certain words that I feel would be tells.
"WikiGPT is a portmanteau of wikipedia and ChatGPT"

Look.... the teevee told them to support it, so they support it!

Those little drill battery inverters are incredible in a lot of unexpected ways. Sometimes you just need a plug for a bit of power somewhere there's no power.
A promissory note is basically just a piece of paper saying "I promise to pay you this amount at this time". It might be secured or unsecured, and it might have an interest charge but it doesn't have to.
They are actually used relatively commonly in big business, because typically you'll place an order of materials or services, promising to pay at some amount of time after delivery. This means that despite not being a bank, the customer is indebted to the vendor for some period of time between delivery and payment, and the customer has promised to pay within a certain period of time (usually between 30 and 90 days)
