Generally it's more effective to stay out of dangerous situations than to be always ready to kill.

And so in real life you "shall always have a situations where the code itself isn't enough and individuals have to use their brain" the trouble with an ideal is that it is ideal and we aren't always going to achieve that ideal. Ideally you would never want to employ any type of violence under any circumstances, but on the other hand ideally you're also going to want to stay safe and sometimes these two ideals are going to be at odds.
