Women are not safe in Britain and the Government is unlikely to achieve its goal of halving violence against females, the aunt of Zara Aleena has warned.

Speaking on the third anniversary of the murder of the law graduate, Farah Naz said she feared more young women would lose their lives in tragic circumstances because public services, including probation, were broken.

Ms Aleena, 35, was sexually assaulted and killed by career criminal Jordan McSweeney as she walked home in Ilford, east London, in June 2022.

McSweeney, who had 28 convictions for 69 separate offences, had only been released from jail nine days earlier and was wanted for recall to prison having breached probation following his release.

An inquest concluded that failures across multiple agencies had contributed to the death of Ms Aleena, with a coroner telling the Metropolitan Police and the Probation Service to improve their services or risk future deaths.

> we took a catastrophic wrong turn when we optimized for engagement over connection, for time-on-platform over user wellbeing, for extraction over authentic relationship. Now we’re fighting a battle against the architecture of distraction, against companies that profit from fractured attention and frayed mental health.

Important distinction.

> They're stirring up hatred

Who is?

I see nothing in the mainstream media that validates this.

On the other hand, the onslaught in Gaza and aggression against Iran can't be good for PR..

Seems sane.

Why should war for Israel be a priority for the American people?

Poland in one generation

I checked . This is an actual study in Nature. LLM says total count is still probably the same. But the rural count is higher than we think

People used to be farmers and weather mattered

Then most of them stopped farming, but culture takes a long time to adjust

When I was a kid I thought it was really weird that old people talked about the weather constantly.

Now I am older and I’m still wondering why everyone is talking about the weather.

China is dumping US Treasury bonds and buying gold in record volumes.
The yellow graph shows the share of gold in gold reserves, and the white one shows the share of US Treasury securities.

Neat.

> A key principle for 17th-century scholars transcribing or translating classical or biblical texts was lectio difficilior potior: The reading that is stranger is stronger. If a word differs between two versions of the text you’re working on, you should actually choose the one that seems to make less sense. That surprising word choice is likelier to have been the original author’s meaning, because it’s likelier that a previous copyist, translator, or (eventually) typesetter replaced a surprising word with one that was more predictable than vice versa. The wisdom was: Don’t let an easy, commonsensical option erase a unique and potentially more interesting and challenging statement.

@mindsprome It's amusing that they want me to pay to sit through a two-hour long movie when I can't even sit through a minute long trailer for it.

Oh no. NYC is going to suffer the consequences of their political policies.

Terrible.
