this explains so much tbh

The choice for mankind lies between freedom and happiness and for the great bulk of mankind, happiness is better.

George Orwell, 1984

"Always eyes watching you and the voice enveloping you. Asleep or awake, indoors or out of doors, in the bath or bed- no escape.

Nothing was your own except the few cubic centimeters in your skull."

George Orwell, 1984

Imagine having such an infantile and naive understanding of how to foster high trust society.

The library is not an initiator of high trust community; libraries are an output of high trust community.

@EdBoatConnoisseur From an english speakers perspective that looks like a cat was walking on the keyboard

What the fuck is happening in India?

@sj_zero Yeah I remember when I was in school if I needed to ask a kid from class a homework question I would call around till I found where they lived "hey does jimmy live there? oh you're his grandma? May I have his number please"

Just imagine: 30 years ago, our civilization was so high trust that we had books delivered to every household with everyone's name, phone number, and sometimes even address.

When people tell you things are the same as they've always been, they're wrong.

Accurate?

It really was an awful time. It was like living in a twighlight zone episode. The ā€œrepublicansā€ had control of congress for most of it. It’s almost too much to think about…

I don't even play every month but I can see why it's winning, went down the rabbit hole a little bit and the data is telling.

passed tennis in tracked activities on apple, growth rate is insane

I think tennis barrier to entry is too high for most people. Pickleball is fun for any skill level so I think it follows that total addressable market is bigger.

The most convincing stats for me were that top player salaries and sponsorship are climbing towards tennis pretty quickly and that the average age of the pickleball player is lower than tennis.

Well, you can pretty much bet that an ATM has a log of every bill it gave you and every bill you gave it.

Likewise, in a bank robbery, any sane bank can re-count their money after the robbery and deduce exactly what bills were stolen.

Shop keepers don't generally scan their bills at all, but when they take their bills to the bank, the way I've seen it done, they have to shove them all through the ATM, so again, the bank has a record of where the bills ended up.

What I don't know is whether they're being required to share that data with the government, but if I were to take a wild guess, I'd say they are.
