They don't care if it works.

It was never about the thing working, so arguing and proving it doesn't work is futile.

It was always only ever about power.

Gov run groceries given them more power. Simple as.

@sensei @sj_zero

For some reason "not spending those same billions on foreign aid, war, and handouts" isn't an option..

Oh did you work your whole life like everyone else? Sucks to be you!

I don't think Trump restructured food stamps to score political points.

I think "they" did it because the United States dollar is literally about to collapse. And they're trying to start weaning their dependent pets off the endless gibs and get them to start wrapping their heads around the fact that soon there will be no section 8 or EBT (for anyone for any reason).

I don't quite get the punch line.

Seems like they have power and wealth?

Do I have to wait two more weeks for the FO part?

@judgedread I can't come up with an offshore location that's as porn-friendly as the GAE proper, but even granting that having it be illegal to produce and distribute would rob it of the morality it carries and force the purveyors of filth to always be looking over their shoulder.

I don't believe that Starmer, Trump, Macron, etc really have all that much power.

If they go along with what the rich & powerful want they can get things done. If they resist, they find themselves impotent.

You don’t get freedom of if every meeting pings your device.

You don’t get of movement if your face unlocks the transit system.

You don’t get if the city knows your pace, posture, and patterns.

On Japanese Twitter the big outrage de jour is the editor of an art journal dissing his hometown for being lacking in culture ("there's nothing but a shopping mall"). Obviously small town people are offended and pointing out the particular charms of his particular hometown (and doing absolutely valid but also nasty comparisons to the other kind of cultural nadir that he currently resides in, a nouveau riche tower apartment) while calling for his public apology. The sad thing is that everyone involved is correct but nobody wants to admit that the other side has incredibly valid points that are never ever in a million years up for public discussion. In Japanese media today you will find a thousand published articles about the Gaza conflict but not a single article on the ongoing aesthetic impoverishment of Japan. It is depressing.

@EscapeVelo @judgedread I tend to disagree on this point because if states used existing laws to threaten digital pimps like those that run “only fans“ that it would kill off 80% of porn generation which would be worth doing.

@KiKi88 there's like 1000 different variations of bananas but we don't know about them because the chiquita banana company is basically the mafia

RT @RobertKwolek@twitter.com:

While Britain and the US tore up their trams after WWII, Germany kept theirs. 60 cities still run trams today, stitching together city centres and walkable, low-car neighbourhoods. How did they do it? I wrote an article about that: https://www.createstreets.com/the-country-that-never-tore-up-its-tracks/
