The people who have to wear ties are often middle level or lower level employees. Multimillionaires wear whatever they want. The fellas who wear ties usually drive newer but average cars and have nice homes. The ones that don't wear ties have luxury cars and boats and second homes.
Having been an expat for my entire adult life, I don't really have that much connection to America anymore and I'm more just cheering from the sidelines. But the US elites have been making the country a little bit worse every year since at least the 1970s. It's so depraved. There are places in America that even the poorest people in Europe would be astonished to see.
So I don't think there is any amount of vengeance that will ever be enough, but I can tell you at this point Americans are like 1930s Germany level angry.

"The Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Trust Fund will be able to pay 100 percent of total scheduled benefits until 2033, unchanged from last year’s report. At that time, the fund’s reserves will become depleted"
It turns out that the fundamental function of a Ponzi doesn't care about the job titles of people who are paid to write reports about it.
For some reason "not spending those same billions on foreign aid, war, and handouts" isn't an option..
I don't think Trump restructured food stamps to score political points.
I think "they" did it because the United States dollar is literally about to collapse. And they're trying to start weaning their dependent pets off the endless gibs and get them to start wrapping their heads around the fact that soon there will be no section 8 or EBT (for anyone for any reason).

I don't quite get the punch line.
Seems like they have power and wealth?
Do I have to wait two more weeks for the FO part?

@judgedread I can't come up with an offshore location that's as porn-friendly as the GAE proper, but even granting that having it be illegal to produce and distribute would rob it of the morality it carries and force the purveyors of filth to always be looking over their shoulder.
I don't believe that Starmer, Trump, Macron, etc really have all that much power.
If they go along with what the rich & powerful want they can get things done. If they resist, they find themselves impotent.

You don’t get freedom of #assembly if every meeting pings your device.
You don’t get #freedom of movement if your face unlocks the transit system.
You don’t get #privacy if the city knows your pace, posture, and patterns.

On Japanese Twitter the big outrage de jour is the editor of an art journal dissing his hometown for being lacking in culture ("there's nothing but a shopping mall"). Obviously small town people are offended and pointing out the particular charms of his particular hometown (and doing absolutely valid but also nasty comparisons to the other kind of cultural nadir that he currently resides in, a nouveau riche tower apartment) while calling for his public apology. The sad thing is that everyone involved is correct but nobody wants to admit that the other side has incredibly valid points that are never ever in a million years up for public discussion. In Japanese media today you will find a thousand published articles about the Gaza conflict but not a single article on the ongoing aesthetic impoverishment of Japan. It is depressing.
