This is a big barrier to having more instances and more decentralization.

It isn't reasonable for every server to store every post forever. Without a "random" button that gives you a feed of older posts, most interactions are based on the past few days and hours, rather than weeks, let alone months and years..

There is something about standard modern technology that dissuades me from reading. I don't read full news articles often on my computer or phone, even though I could. If a story or lengthy article isn't on a physical book, magazine, newspaper, or an e-reader, for some reason, I probably won't actually read it.
