I don't know if I'm necessarily against rule of whim any more.
It can be difficult as a founder to define exactly what you want from a space.
I guess if it's clear how it's run and the members all agree to that then I don't have a problem with it.
Not acceptable for anything you're forced to participate in though (such as countries).

For example, with my planned is-ought distinction based forum: all is beliefs are allowed, that's fine; but I don't know how to specify exactly what ought beliefs should be banned.
Maybe I should just make it for is beliefs not ought beliefs at all.

It works even better if you have subjective moderation

The problem with personal rule though is that often you don't know the ruler as a person, so you can't guess what they are going to do very well.

This is related to a very practical political standpoint I have, and it's that you don't really know what someone's going to do until you give them the reins. Sometimes they say a bunch of stuff that's terrible and it turns out that pretty decent, other times they say a bunch of stuff that sounds great but they end up doing something completely different. Unless things are just getting insanely bad, I try not to back any politician until I've seen the sort of politician they are in action.

Of course, sometimes it's just time to vote the buggers out.
