Fidel Castro's illegitimate son doubled our national debt. The resulting inflations sees 2 million people routinely going to the food bank because they can't make ends meet. When the government was pushed the answer for this, they claimed it was because they weren't allowed to spend enough money.

That's always the answer. Literally spend more money than every government put together combined before you, and the only problem is that you just didn't spend enough. Yet, in spite of all that money spent, things didn't get any better for anyone except the politically connected.
