Can't believe the Editorial Board at the Washington Post is a bunch of election deniers smh..

I just think of if the American army was on the border about to take my city, and the call went out: "Who wants to volunteer to fight the Americans?" -- I'd probably be like "Howdy you all parteneur" -- go ahead, doesn't negatively affect my life if it's Trump instead of Trudeau, but it will very negatively affect my life if me and all my friends die fighting the Americans!
Yeah, the question was always right there, but somehow I never stumbled to the answer.
I'd always puzzle over those commercials and wonder who runs to their doctor to ask for a drug they saw on TV?
Answer seems to be that they don't.

People who knew Ukraine before this conflict knew it was a massively corrupt place, so from the start getting the truth was going to be difficult.
Because of that, any discussion of public sentiment is tough to believe.
Ask them, "Do you want to elect your own leader?" they would presumably wonder about the validity of the election which would skew their answer.

Oh.
Ohhhhhh..
Can't believe I didn't realize it was about ensuring favorable coverage rather than spamming the public.

Huh?
"We acknowledge this land was stolen but we're here anyway to make a bunch of money off it."
Doesn't seem very empathic

Hosting requirements increase infinitely over time.
Would be nice if you could say "only keep 2 weeks of content"

The ideal scenario is close to the fediverse, but I think both sides get it a little wrong.
You don't have to choose between all or nothing. The best balance is to treat each instance as a mini community. It isn't about free speech, it's about freedom of association. Each instance should focus on curating a culture, but activity pub connects all the instances allowing the freedom of ideas.
The biggest limitation right now is hosting.

We're seeing culture shift in real time.
If Bluesky is just the comfy hug box for these people that X used to be, the people who matter will be on X if it is just a choice between the two.
If only there were some other third option with a decentralized protocol..

I don't understand what problem bluesky solves.
Seems like more of the same, with just a different choice of who will decide what is censored.

Seems more like certain protests are allowed/encouraged and others are crushed.
Just depends on who gains power from the protest.

Pretty sure politics have been like this since the dawn of time.
Practically speaking the average person doesn't pay attention, so you have to put in the work now for 2026.
