Jean Baudrillard's simulations and simulacra describe how you start with reality, and reality is then simulated and eventually the simulation is simulated to create a simulacrum, and the original reality may in fact cease to exist. This toy really reminds me of that. There was once a thing as a rotary phone. The rotary phone was simulated in a children's toy. Then the children's toy itself is simulated in another children's toy, and meanwhile rotary phones have disappeared, and in an example of hyperreality, the reference to reality has disappeared entirely and the toy which is the simulation becomes an icon which is represented separately from its original context.
Most Americans would be fine with killing lots of foreigners if it lowered gas prices, reduced inflation and helped the stock market. It's the same thinking that accepts layoffs from mergers and outsourcing cause stuff gets cheaper.

Just had a call from the dog shelter. They are sending someone out to do a home inspection/check we aren't nut jobs. If we pass, we'll be able to start fostering dogs who are waiting for adoption. I get the impression they are quite desperate as I suggested next week for the inspection but they were very keen to come sooner. Settled on Saturday as a compromise, so I have 4 1/2 days to knock my hovel into shape!

On Auron's podcast that I listened to this morning he echoed a point many of us made before the election: that if they deported all the non-Americans, jailed violent leftists, passed SAVE, etc then yeah, invade wherever you want. But without that it just looks like incompetence and corruption through and through (which, yeah).
