fedibb.ml
I routinely cruise for new lemmy and lotide instances because the more federation the better, and found this really neat lemmy instance. It's set up to visually resemble phpbb. Sorta neat, eh?

Is ytcracker still releasing new stuff? I should probably update my collection...
I'm so sad seeing a lot of my favorite nerdcore artists going full sarkeesian.

Diversity of choices is a good thing. It's a big tech conceit that you need billions on a platform for it to be useful, you just need the people you want to communicate with. At some point, it could actually become harmful having too many people under one virtual roof
Near miss head on motor vehicle collision
I can understand people think they're looking for just a fraction of a second like I did, but once they've been informed that they're mistaken (and I suspect anyone still doing it has had experiences informing them that they're mistaken) then it's not a mistaken perception but an active choice.

I feel lucky that I learned my lesson early on.
Remember those keyboard phones a long time ago? I got one when I was dating and I'd occasionally look at a text while driving long haul road trips. One day, I was looking at a text from a girl along a long stretch of straight road, and suddenly I realised I was on the shoulder. So I straightened out. And this happened a couple times and then I realised the truth: I thought I was just looking at my phone for a second, but it was a long time, and taking your eyes off the road for a long time is suicidal. Today, phone stays in my pocket unless it's acting as a GPS. I can wait until I'm not driving.
Drives the wife nuts haha

I saw some forums like that too, or often they'd have a "go shit this place up" forum and then everyone was sort of expected to behave in the rest.
My only thing in Canada is any new policy should be funded, because Canada is going to financially collapse and we'll lose all our nice social programs at this rate if they aren't.
I figure we could implement dental care tomorrow at no increase to the federal deficit if we increase the GST/HST by 2%.

My biggest shock with the American system is that there isn't universal healthcare already. The amount collected for medicare is enough per capita to do it based on almost every other country on the planet.
Takes a whole new mindset....Or rather, a very old mindset because that's the way it used to be. Forums were pretty hands off because the people running them didn't do it for a living. Occasionally admins would get involved if someone was being dangerous to the whole system, but generally speaking people had to figure their shit out on their own.
They aren't specifically envious of the men, but they know something is wrong and that they're getting fucked by having a bunch of guys who aren't interested in the pot of gold wandering up and going "Can I be your consolation prize tonight, baby?"
Thought I hit send on my reply here...
Imagine you have two hallways with 200,000 doors ahead of you.
In each hallway, there's a pot of gold.
In the first hallway, like 99% of the doors are locked. Any door that is unlocked but doesn't have the pot of gold has a little prize, like a piece of candy.
In the second hallway, most of the doors are unlocked. Same as before, there's a consolation prize in the unlocked doors.
Put a man in the first hallway, and a woman in the second hallway. The man ends up able to completely bypass many of the doors because they're locked, but spends a lot of time without even a consolation prize. The woman ends up having to open and investigate most of the doors, and ends up piling up all these consolation prizes.
If they are both looking for the pot of gold, each would consider the other to be living in a spot with greener grass. The man would look at the woman at least tripping over consolation prizes, but the woman would look at the man and not wasting time opening doors to get yet another consolation prize because who actually wants 199,999 consolation prizes?
In some ways, it comes out in the wash.

Now I'm hearing the theme to Team America:World Police but with the word "America" replaced by the word "Genocide"

Had an account like 7 years ago, but deleted it because I realized I was contributing to Twitter saying they had a billion accounts. I'm all in on free software and self-hosting. Big tech had their chance, they blew it. Lots of those tech CEOs talked just like Musk 10 years ago.
I'm loath to defererate with anyone, but you're making a really good argument for defederating from big tech if they try to step in...
Embrace, Extend, Extinguish is exactly how we ended up in our big tech nightmare.

These people came from big tech, where they can whine and cry and silence all opposition because there's someone at the top who is trying to become a multi-billionaire.
There are really easy ways to deal with people being mean to you on the Internet, and these morons have cultivated the polar opposite of all effective strategies.
